       Fraunhofer rectangular aperture diffraction experiment is a classic optical experiment in the College Optical-Physics Experiments. The phenomenon that light deviates from the straight transmission path while it goes through a barrier or an aperture is called diffraction of light. Both diffraction of light and interference of light prove the wave character of light. In the Fraunhofer rectangular aperture diffraction experiment, since there is a rectangular aperture, the diffraction occurs when the light passes through the diffraction screen, and the diffraction pattern is formed on the viewing screen through the lens. The diffraction pattern mainly expands along the four sides of the rectangular aperture, and forms a series of bright spots. The bright spots at the center show the largest light intensity, while those on four sides present decreasing light intensity. This is a typical optical experiment to observe the diffraction of light.

       Through building the Fraunhofer rectangular aperture diffraction cage system, students solve various problems encountered during experiments to develop a further understanding of the theoretical knowledge and the principle of optics about the system. OMTOOLS offers the Fraunhofer rectangular aperture diffraction cage system kit for teaching or research use in a variety of optical laboratories. An OD 25.4 mm optic fiber collimator with FC/PC interfaces is included in the kit, and we also provide optional light sources. The system is compatible with your light sources and OD 25.4 mm optic fiber collimators. For optic fiber collimators with other outer dimensions such as 9 mm, 11 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, and 18 mm, or other customized dimensions, we provide collimator adapters with SM1 threads. To facilitate the compatibility with adapters, we can replace the OMTF25A lens mounts with jack screws and fixed light sources with the OMTF25B lens mount with clamping rings free of charge. (Note: this kit only includes one optical rectangular aperture slit. See the slit specifications below if other slits are required)

Optical rectangular aperture slit
  • Housing material: 6061-T6 aluminium alloy;
  • Rectangular aperture material: 300 stainless steel;

       The optical rectangular aperture slit sheet metals provided by OMTOOLS are machined from 300 stainless steel with a thickness of 30 μm. The rectangular aperture slit is mounted in a black anodizing Ø25.4 mm aluminium alloy housing, which can reduce the impact of reflection on the experiment to a greater extent. The double slit can be mounted in optical mounts with a diameter of 25.4 mm. The slit is available in a range of sizes for Fraunhofer rectangular aperture diffraction cage systems. The slits of different specifications lead to multiple sets of data.
