       The low absorption of zinc selenide itself makes this material window suitable for applications of HeNe lasers at 633 nm and high-power carbon dioxide lasers at 10.6 μm. Its frequent direct contact with the skin can cause dermatitis. When exposed to acid, ZnSe tends to decompose and emit harmful hydrogen selenide gas, which can irritate human eyes and respiratory mucosa. Thus, operators must wear gloves, filter dust masks, chemical safety goggles, and impermeable work clothes during operation.
